Island Health warned people Monday to avoid the water at Willows Beach, after testing revealed high levels of bacteria.

The District of Oak Bay said the area is unsafe for swimming and other water activities.

An advisory due to high bacteria levels is also in effect at Sayward Beach, which borders Cordova Bay, where testing was done about 60 metres to the right of the beach-access stairs.

Beaches are not technically closed in such cases, but Island Health said it is “highly recommended” that people avoid the water.
