The six-vehicle chain-reaction crash occurred about 7:45 a.m. Monday on the Pat Bay Highway just south of Mount Newton Cross Road, said police.
A driver who stopped suddenly after being startled by the sight of a dead otter on the side of the Patricia Bay Highway might have been the trigger for a six-vehicle chain-reaction crash Monday morning, Central Saanich police say.
The sudden stop occurred about 7:45 a.m. just south of Mount Newton Cross Road, police said.
No injuries were reported, although paramedics attended as a precaution.
Police said the crash is a reminder to drivers to leave enough space between vehicles to ensure they have room to stop safely, especially if the vehicle in front suddenly stops.
Stopping distance increases with speed, police said, so drivers should ensure greater distances between vehicles on highways.
