A woman has been charged with breaking and entering after a break-in at an Oak Bay home while the residents were inside.

Occupants of the home in the 3500-block of Henderson Road called police about 4:10 a.m. on June 24 after being awakened by sounds inside the home.

Police arrived and found a woman still in the home.

Qiana Hodgins, 45, was arrested and remains in custody pending a court date.

Deputy Police Chief Kris Rice said break-and-enter incidents involving occupied homes are uncommon in Oak Bay, and police take them “extremely seriously.”

“We understand the concern this may cause in the community and want to reassure residents that public safety remains our top priority.”
