Police and safety inspectors issued 18 violation tickets with penalties totalling more than $7,700 to taxi operators and other professional drivers at Ogden Point last month, the B.C. Highway Patrol says.

The infractions included having incorrect passenger-transportation licences and operating outside the conditions of a licence.

Twelve orders were issued for drivers and vehicles to comply with regulations.

The highway patrol’s Integrated Road Safety Unit joined with the Ministry of Transportation and Transit’s Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement officers for the checks on June 19 and 20 at Ogden Point’s cruise ship terminal

The action was part of ongoing efforts to ensure that taxis, ride-hail vehicles and “other professional people movers” are safe and legal, the highway patrol said.
