Fires at Carmel Creek and Ivanhoe Creek discovered Sunday.
Two wildfires are burning on Vancouver Island, the B.C. Wildfire Service said Sunday.
A blaze near Carmel Creek to the west of Duncan was reported Sunday afternoon and covers 0.76 hectares, the service said.
Two initial attack crews, two officers and two helicopters are responding to the fire, which is suspected to be human-caused. The service said the fire is being held, meaning it is expected to stay within its existing boundary.
The other fire, at Ivanhoe Creek between Jordan River and Port Renfrew, covers 0.38 hectares and was also discovered on Sunday. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and B.C. Wildfire Service said it is burning out of control.
A high or extreme fire danger rating was assigned to much of southern Vancouver Island Sunday, withwarm outflow windsfrom the province’s interior expected to worsen wildfire risk on Monday.
