The complex on Cedar Hill Cross Road at Cedar Hill Road will include a mix of subsidized and market rentals and be connected via a walkway to the Luther Court facility
Construction has begun on a 95-unit affordable-housing complex through the Luther Court Society, in partnership with B.C. Housing.
The complex on Cedar Hill Cross Road at Cedar Hill Road will include a mixture of subsidized and market rental rates for 15 studio units, 75 one-bedroom suites and five two-bedroom suites.
A walkway will connect them to the existing Luther Court facility, where the majority of residents are in their 80s or older. It includes 60 long-term-care suites, 27 assisted-living apartments and a community health-care centre.
The new development will also include more than 3,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space for community programs and gatherings. Completion is expected in the summer of 2027.
The project, intended for people with low to moderate incomes, is supported with $15.6-million from B.C. Housing’s Community Housing Fund.
Luther Court Society chief executive Kevin Harter said it’s important to provide programming that engages people across generations.
The society noted that residents will be close to grocery stores, coffee shops and financial institutions.
The Luther Court Society was created in June 1974 by members of the Lutheran Church of the Cross who wanted to address the needs of older adults and those living with disabilities.
