The Victoria Shamrocks’ defence showed why it is the best in the Western Lacrosse Association in a 6-5 victory over the New Westminster Salmonbellies on Friday night at The Q Centre.

The Shamrocks have allowed the fewest goals in the league with only 70 given up in 10 games.

The ’Bellies led 5-4 heading into the third period before goals by Patrick Dodds and Zach Manns in the third period won it for Victoria.

The game took place at the top of the table with Victoria moving to 8-1-1 and the Salmonbellies falling to 8-2.

Also in the mix in the race for first place are the Coquitlam Adanacs at 8-2-1.

Meanwhile, the Nanaimo Timbermen tumbled to 1-10 following an 8-7 overtime loss to the Lakers (2-8) on Friday night in Burnaby.

The Shamrocks and Timbermen meet in the Island derby on Wednesday night at The Q Centre.
