Driver arrested after failing to stop, then hitting police blockade

West Shore RCMP tried to pull the vehicle over but the driver failed to stop, so officers set up a blockade near the 2600-block of Sooke Road. The Malibu then ran into a police vehicle blocking the road, police said.

A driver who failed to pull over for a traffic stop then ran into a police vehicle that was blocking the road was arrested early Monday.

West Shore RCMP said an officer patrolling in the area of Jacklin Road and Rex Road in Langford just after midnight on Sunday spotted a grey 2002 Chevrolet Malibu with inactive insurance and a licence plate that had been reported as stolen.

Police tried to pull the vehicle over but the driver failed to stop, so officers set up a blockade near the 2600-block of Sooke Road. The Malibu then ran into a police vehicle blocking the road, police said.

Michael Bruce, 36, was arrested and has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

He has been remanded in custody and has a court date in July.

“Fortunately, no one sustained any injuries as a result of this incident, particularly as the incident unfolded during the late-night hours,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar.
