North Division team plays in Bellingham, Washington, on July 16
From the majors to the minors to summer-collegiate leagues, baseball takes a mid-summer breather with its all-star games.
Five Victoria HarbourCats and two Nanaimo NightOwls have been selected on the North Division team for the West Coast League all-star game in Bellingham, Washington, on July 16.
The HarbourCats chosen are pitcher Tommy Bridges and sluggers Logan Shepherd, Tanner Beltowski, Jack Johnson and JC Allen. Named from the NightOwls are infielders Jacob Hayes and Talan Zenk.
The North Division edged the South Division 3-2 in last year’s WCL all-star game, which was also played in Bellingham.
Meanwhile, the HarbourCats, off to a blazing 7-1 start in the second half of the WCL season, closed out their three-game set past deadline Wednesday night in Port Angeles against the Lefties. The HarbourCats open a three-game series against the Kelowna Falcons on Friday night at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park.
The NightOwls (2-2 in the second half heading into Wednesday night) conclude their set against the Falcons Thursday night at Serauxmen Stadium in Nanaimo. The ‘Owls open a three-game series against the visiting Wenatchee AppleSox on Friday night in the Harbour City.
