Along with the firearms — including rifles and handguns — 4.5 kilograms of cocaine, two sets of ballistic armour and $27,000 in cash were seized from a residence in Langford
Two men and two women have been charged after a lengthy drug-trafficking investigation by Victoria police that involved the seizure of 20 firearms and more than 20,000 rounds of ammunition.
Along with the firearms — including rifles and handguns — 4.5 kilograms of cocaine, two sets of ballistic armour and $27,000 in cash were seized from a residence in Langford as a result of a covert operation.
The search and seizure followed an arrest on June 25, 2024, in Langford.
Kelt Haymes was taken into custody and later released pending further investigation.
The nature of covert tactics used in a given case aren’t disclosed by police, but they can include surveillance, undercover work and general intelligence gathering.
Charges were approved June 11 by federal Crown counsel against Haymes, Lain Babin, Sarah Bonin and Abigail Lopez.
Haymes is charged with one count of possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, two counts of careless storage of a firearm, one count of unauthorized possession of a prohibited device and one count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Babin is charged with two counts of trafficking cocaine and one count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Bonin is charged with one count of trafficking cocaine, while Abigail Lopez is charged with one count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The case began in early June 2024, when officers began a covert investigation of a suspected drug trafficker, which resulted in a search warrant being executed June 25, 2024, on Pintail Place, off Bear Mountain Parkway.
Since the search was at a residence in Langford, the West Shore RCMP Emergency Response Team assisted at the scene, working with the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team and the Victoria police strike force.
