Charges of dangerous driving causing death and impaired driving causing death have been laid against a 47-year-old man in connection with a crash that killed a woman on the Nanaimo Parkway last August.
Samuel Taylor was arrested Tuesday, and released pending a June 24 court appearance.
Joy Pecknold, 42, died after her SUV was struck by a southbound car that witnesses said crossed the grassy median between the Dunster Road overpass and the Doumont Road bridge on Aug. 10. 2024.
Two weeks later, police shut down the parkway in both directions for about 90 minutes and flew a drone overhead to reassess the scene and look for evidence.
The road closure followed extensive consultation with the City of Nanaimo and the Ministry of Transportation.
Motorists were advised to use the Old Island Highway as an alternative.
