Police said the dispute began when the woman’s off-leash dog ran aggressively at the man and his leashed dog, and the man kicked the woman’s dog to keep his dog from getting hurt
Nanaimo RCMP are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who kicked a woman’s dog and pushed the woman to the ground, then head-butted her in an altercation involving their pets.
Police responded to a report of the assault at North Town Centre mall about 7:30 p.m. on June 16.
They determined that after the woman’s off-leash dog ran aggressively at the man and his leashed dog, the man kicked the woman’s dog to keep his dog from getting hurt.
When the woman tried to intervene, the man pushed her and she went down, police said.
The woman then got up and faced the man, and he head-butted her, knocking her back onto the ground.
Witnesses said the suspect then ran away, looking for his dog.
They stayed with the woman until police and paramedics arrived.
The suspect is described as white and 35 to 45 with short dark hair and a stocky build, and was wearing a red shirt and tan shorts.
He was walking with a medium-sized white dog with black spots.
