The youths gave a brief chase, but stopped after the man threatened them, Nanaimo RCMP say
Two young bike riders enjoying a break on the patio at a Nanaimo McDonald’s were shocked when a man exiting the store suddenly threw a drink and jacket at them and tore off on one of their bikes.
RCMP said the youths gave a brief chase, but stopped after the man threatened them.
The incident happened at 3:44 p.m. on July 4 at the McDonald’s at 1835 Bowen Rd.
The suspect, described as a Caucasian man between 40 and 45 years old and sporting a goatee, was last seen heading toward Dufferin Street. Officers carried out an extensive search, but were unable to find the man.
The bike, a bright orange Devinci brand, turned up three days later when someone waved down a patrol officer to hand it over. It was returned to the owner the same day.
The suspect remains unidentified and at large, said police, who released a video of the theft and photos of the man, who was wearing a black T-shirt with Honda on the front, a dark baseball cap and blue jeans.
Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
