Man with guns apprehended in Thetis Lake park

Several firearms were located and seized by police. No one sustained any injuries.

Thetis Lake Regional Park was shut down Thursday night as police responded to reports of a person who was in a mental health crisis and carrying several guns.

West Shore RCMP said the individual was apprehended without incident under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for care.

Several firearms were located and seized by police. No one sustained any injuries.

The park was closed at 9 p.m. for about 90 minutes to ensure public safety, RCMP said.

The area was flooded with first responders, including View Royal firefighters, police officers from Victoria and Saanich, and the West Shore RCMP’s canine unit.
