More than 1,200 EV chargers installed at new Richmond Centre development

Canada’s largest multi-residential electric vehicle site is in Richmond.

The Richmond Centre development is now home to Canada’s largest multi-residential electric vehicle (EV) charging project in a residential building.

Cadillac Fairview is partnering with local developer Shape Properties and GBL Architects on the 12-tower redevelopment next to CF Richmond Centre, and has installed 1,212 smart Level 2 EV chargers in the residential parkade with an area the size of six football fields.

This EV charger, led by Enlightened Building Technologies, uses Canadian-made “smart” EV charging technology from Elocity, according to a media release.

The chargers are “smart” because they use Elocity’s AI-based software to lower costs by charging during low power rate times and easing the load on the power grid.

While these chargers are only available to residents of Richmond Centre, there will be between 20 to 40 additional chargers in place for public use.

Enlightened Building Technologies says the project could save 584,677 gallons of fuel.

“This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our team and the strength of our partnerships,” said Jack Bittan, CEO of Enlightened Building Technologies.

“We are so proud to be delivering the largest single-site EV charging installation in the country with great Canadian technology.”

Dan Wilson, executive vice-president of residential at Shape Properties, said the Elocity Level 2 chargers are installed in every residential parking stall at no cost to homeowners, with the help of Natural Resources Canada.

“By integrating this infrastructure into the residential offering of our master-planned community, we are eliminating barriers to EV adoption,” said Wilson.

“This initiative reinforces Richmond Centre as a forward-thinking, world-class destination designed for the future of urban living.”
