New VicPD deputy chief appointed

Michael Brown will lead the department’s administrative section, including human resources, financial and legal services, and community engagement

Michael Brown has been named one of two deputy chiefs of the Victoria Police Department.

Brown, whose post took effect June 1, joins Deputy Chief Jamie McRae, who is in charge of police operations.

Brown’s appointment is for a one-year term, during which he will lead the department’s administrative section, including human resources, financial and legal services, and community engagement.

A third-generation police officer, Brown has been with the department for 30 years.

The majority of his career has been spent with the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, including as a tactical officer and critical-incident commander.

He was most recently the officer in charge of the Esquimalt Division, serving in the municipality where he grew up.

“Deputy Chief Brown has shown exceptional dedication and commitment to both our department and the communities we serve,” said Police Chief Del Manak. “His career reflects the values we stand for, and he has made a valued contribution to the community in Esquimalt.”
