Port Renfrew death no longer considered suspicious

A person arrested in the June 23 case has been cleared, police said.

About 9 p.m. on June 23, Sooke RCMP responded to a report of a man with blood on him near Pachidah Road in Port Renfrew, and arrived to find two men, including one who was injured.

A death last month in Port Renfrew initially deemed suspicious is now considered non-criminal, says the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit.

A person arrested in the case has been cleared, police said.

About 9 p.m. on June 23, Sooke RCMP responded to a report of a man with blood on him near Pachidah Road in Port Renfrew, and arrived to find two men, including one who was injured.

The injured man died despite life-saving measures by police, and the Major Crime Unit took over the investigation, which was treated as a homicide at first.

The case, which is no longer considered suspicious, has now been turned over to the B.C. Coroners Service.
